VCNebraska Youth Academy Philosophies
VCNebraska’s Youth Academy is founded on the idea that the technical, basic skills are the most important part of the game. Kids cannot be successful participating on an organized team unless they are comfortable with the sport on an individual level.
Volleyball is a highly skilled sport, especially difficult to execute when the athletes are young. The VCN Youth Academy will enable boys and girls at every level to learn the fundamentals in a controlled environment, independent of the pressures of winning or losing.
While competition is important, we believe that winning is a by-product of hard work and continued practice to master the basic skills. Competition will still be a part of the Youth Academy curriculum, but it will be used as a supplement to fundamental learning.
At the oldest Youth Academy Level, kids will be allowed to participate in a 3 month spring club season. We believe this will help prepare them for the jump to trying out for a VCNebraska 7/8th grade elite club team.
Within the Youth Academy, kids must execute and learn specific skills in order to graduate to the next “Level”. With this approach, we are teaching the importance of setting goals and working hard to achieve those goals every day.
VCNebraska’s Youth Academy will give kids the physical and mental tools necessary to improve their skills and enjoy the game as they mature.
